EXPERIENCE
Jury Trial Experience
I’ve spent time trying cases in front of juries here at home, doing the work when it counts. I’m comfortable in the courtroom, asking the right questions, presenting the evidence, and making arguments people can understand. I’ve seen what works, what falls apart, and how to build a case that holds up.
From Misdemeanors to Serious Felonies
I have worked on cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies, often in situations where the results are crucial. This experience has taught me how cases are built, where they can fall apart, and what is needed to prove them. I focus on presenting evidence clearly so it stands up to close examination. I have also made important choices about negotiations and trial strategies, all while handling a busy caseload and staying prepared.
Leadership
I’m prepared to lead this office from day one; fully present, decisive, and committed to setting the standard for case management. This role deserves full-time dedication, clear accountability, and consistent, reliable work every day.
MEET JOHNNY
My name is Johnny Vaughn, and I am running for Prosecutor of Vigo County.
I earned my Juris Doctor and now practice law here in the community that raised me. But my story started long before law school. I graduated from McLean Alternative School and, like many young people, had to decide what direction my life would take.
From early on, I knew I wanted to serve my community, help people who needed it most, and work to improve the justice system.
My upbringing was not easy. My mother was a teenager when she had me, and both of my parents struggled with legal issues involving drugs throughout my childhood. There were times when living conditions were unstable, and I often moved between my parents and my grandparents. Education was always described as the path to success, but I grew up without a clear example of that path or what it could lead to.
Despite those challenges, I pushed forward. I began my college education at Ivy Tech Community College before transferring to Indiana State University to study Economics and Political Science . During that time I became involved in local politics, worked on campaigns, and served as a legislative intern with the Indiana State Senate. Those experiences helped shape my understanding of government, public service, and the needs of our community.
After completing my education, I began practicing law in this community. My journey has shaped the way I see the justice system. I know firsthand how deeply the law can affect families, victims, and communities. My goal has always been the same: to serve this community, stand up for people who need help, and work to make our justice system stronger.
