Johnny Vaughn Responds to Sexual Misconduct with a Minor Sentencing

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Vigo County Prosecutor candidate Johnny Vaughn released the following statement regarding the recent sentencing of a Terre Haute man who admitted to Level 4 Felony Sexual Misconduct with a Minor. According to published reports, the defendant was sentenced to three years in the Department of Correction and five years on probation, with the report stating that, after credit time, he is expected to spend less than a year in prison.

"When someone admits to Sexual Misconduct with a Minor, protecting children should be our highest priority.

This case resulted in a sentence of three years in the Department of Correction and five years on probation. According to published reports, when all is said and done, the defendant will spend less than a year in prison. More time will be spent on probation than in prison for Sexual Misconduct with a Minor.

Protecting our children isn't optional. Those who prey on them should face meaningful consequences because victims deserve real accountability, and our community deserves to know these crimes are taken seriously.

As your full-time prosecutor, I will fight to protect our kids, stand up for victims, and pursue consequences that reflect the seriousness of the crime. The Prosecutor's Office should always put the safety of children and the interests of victims first.

After nearly 20 years, it's time for change in the Vigo County Prosecutor's Office."
